5 Major Sports Events to Look Forward to in February 2022

2022 is right around the corner, which means that a brand-new calendar of high-profile sporting events are ready to entertain fans all year long. They won’t have to wait too long, either, as many of the most anticipated championships and tournaments are scheduled as early as February. Here we take a look at five in particular from an array of different sports.

The Winter Olympics are back in 2022, this time in Beijing, China

Olympics: 2022 Winter Olympic Games

The last Winter Olympics were held in PyeongChang, South Korea in 2018, so it was already known that the next games would take place in 2022. This time they will be held in Beijing, with the famous opening ceremony kicking off on February 4th at the National Stadium or ‘Birds Nest’, the city’s enormous 80,000 capacity multi-purpose venue. As is customary, the games will feature competitions in winter sports such as snowboarding, curling, figure skating, skiing with all its variants, and many more. Make sure to tune into this historic event that only happens once every four years.

Football: Super Bowl LVI

For football fans in America, February is the most exciting time of year. The annual Super Bowl championship will have its 56th meeting at SoFi Stadium on February 13th. Although the playoffs have not yet begun and there are still a few weeks left in the regular season, fans are busy analyzing top nfl odds in preparation for the big day and every faceoff leading up to it. Some are even calling this year’s event the most ‘open’ Super Bowl yet, meaning that there are many franchises from each division with potential to appear on the great green stage. However, only time will tell which team will make the final cut and ultimately secure a Vince Lombardi in 2022.

Golf: AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am

Although many of the most anticipated events in U.S. golf like the Masters and the U.S. Open take place in the spring and summer, fans can look forward to another tournament on the PGA tour in February: the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. With a history that dates all the way back to 1947, elite golfers compete on three different premier courses — Monterey Peninsula Country Club Course, Pebble Beach Golf Links, and Spyglass Hill Golf Course — all located in Pebble Beach California. There are always a lot of celebrities who attend this event, so if you are able to make it in person you may even get a chance to rub elbows with the rich and famous. If not, you can still watch all the live golf action from home on CBS or the CBS Sports official website.

Racing: Daytona 500

The Daytona 500, also commonly referred to as ‘The Great American Race’ is one of the most important and prestigious events on NASCAR’s annual calendar. As its name suggests, the race spectacle takes place in Daytona Beach, Florida at the Daytona International Motor Speedway. The tournament boasts the biggest price purse in NASCAR and sees talented drivers come together from all over to show off their speedy driving skills. In 2021, an intense finish resulted in Michael McDowell taking home a win, and thankfully everyone involved in the accidental crash came out safe. Although these types of occurrences in NASCAR are common, it is always frustrating when they happen near the end of a race. Tickets are already on sale for the 64th annual event which will begin on February 20th so if you’re a big racing fan, make a plan to attend as soon as possible!

Basketball: NBA All-Star Game

Last but not least, for b-ball fans that are looking for other games to watch in addition to regular season matchups, they should mark their calendars for February 20th as well! This is when the annual All-Star event will take place, or the game that see 24 of the league’s most elite players come together on one court for an epic basketball battle that lasts for three days. Participants from both the Western and Eastern Conference will be there, so watch out for your favorite players on the big screen.
