Apex Legends is coming to mobile devices and phones

Just a month after its release on Nintendo Switch, Respawn Entertainment has announced that Apex Legends is heading to an even smaller platform: mobile. In a blog post on Monday, the developer announced Apex Legends Mobile, a new version of the game specifically designed for mobile platforms.

Like the console and PC version of the game, Apex Legends Mobile is a competitive battle royale where players will take on the role of specific characters with their own unique abilities. Just like the other versions of the game, Apex Legends Mobile will be entirely free to play with purchasable items that provide cosmetic changes only.

According to Respawn, Apex Legends Mobile is similar to its PC and console counterparts, but has been entirely redesigned so it’s a better fit on the small touchscreens of mobile devices. Because of this, Apex Legends Mobile

won’t have cross-play with the other versions of the game. Apex Legends Mobile will also features its own unique Battle Pass and cosmetic items that are separate from those found in the PC and console versions of Apex Legends.

Respawn didn’t share a full release date for Apex Legends Mobile in its announcement post, but it seems that some players won’t have to wait long to get their hands on it. The developer is starting a small beta test in spring 2021 for Android users in India and the Philippines. After that, the beta will gradually expand to iOS and other regions around the world. When the beta starts to grow, Respawn says it will launch a pre-registration page that lets players show their interest in testing the game out.

The new mobile version of the battle royale game wasn’t Respawn’s only big Apex Legends announcement Monday. The studio also revealed the first details for the game’s new season 9 update, which seems to tie closely into Titanfall, and it released the newest “Stories from the Outlands” short, which shows off Valkyrie, the upcoming season’s new character.
