World No. 1 Ashleigh Barty took on American tennis player Danielle Collins in the Adelaide International tournament. The American player caused an upset by beating the World No. 1 player in straight sets 6-3 6-4 in a match that lasted for 65 minutes. This was their fourth meeting, and Collins registered her first win against the Australian player.
In the opening set, Danielle hit four aces past her opponent, whereas Barty served poorly, registering three double faults. The woes for the Australian continued as she converted only 45.8% of her first serves. Ashleigh managed to win only 53.8% of her second serve points and Danielle won 83.3% of her second serve points, which proved to be decisive in the first set.

Even in the second set, the situation didn’t change much. Barty failed to capitalize on her serve and won 37.5% of the second serve points. On the other hand, Collins managed to maintain her level and won 70% of her second serve points. Although Ashleigh broke Danielle, it didn’t make much of a difference as the American player broke her opponent twice.
In the end, Collins won 53 points, which helped her edge past Barty, who won 41 points. With that win, Danielle booked a spot in the quarterfinal. She will play the winner of the match that will happen between Maddison Inglis and French Open 2020 champion Iga Swiatek.
Barty seems to be having a bit of a poor run since she only made it to the quarterfinal of the Australian Open 2021. In the previous season, she had made it to the semifinal in Melbourne but didn’t feature in any of the other Grand Slams played last season.
