Countries Made Takedown Request to Netflix for Removal of Certain Films & TV shows

Netflix has removed different content on the demand of the foreign government. According to a report, from 2015 to 2020, Netflix has removed overall nine titles from its streaming history.

But thanks to the efforts of Netflix, now their viewers know exactly what has been removed.

These Government takedowns requests are mostly received by social media platforms. The straight reason for these takedown requests is the ban on publishing certain kinds of content.

Here is the list of the removed content and the country that has issued the breakdown request:

The Bridge: In 2015, New Zealand Film & Video Labeling Body has demanded the removal of the streaming service of this TV series from the country.

As the series relates to the increasing suicidal rates. And this was the first time when Netflix complied with the government takedown requests.

Night of the Living Dead: In 2017, Netflix complied with the written takedown demand from the German Commission for Youth Protection.

The show was George Romero’s Zombie Classic.

Full Metal Jacket: In 2017, another request was made from the Vietnamese Authority of Broadcasting and Electronic Information (ABEI).

According to the request, the movie should be removed because it is based on the Vietnam war.

Cooking on High, The Legend of 420, and Disjointed: The Singapore Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) has made a takedown request in 2018, to remove these 3 titles from the country’s Netflix streaming services.

Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj: This one is removed from the streaming service of Sauda in 2019.

The takedown request was made as the episode was highly critical of the Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman.

The Last Temptation of Christ: Again in 2019, Singapore has made a written takedown request for the removal of this title from the country’s streaming service.

According to the Singapore Infocomm Media Development Authority, the movie is based on the depiction of Jesus Christ’s relationship with Mary Magdalene.

The Last Hangover: In 2020, Singapore has again made a demand to remove the streaming service of this title from the country. As the film offends the sentiments of racial or religious groups in Singapore.
