As the temperatures begin to rise, so is the action at tennis’ second Grand Slam of the year. Roland Garros heads into the second week with some of the biggest names still aiming for the La Coupe des Mousquetaires (men) or the Suzanne-Lenglen cup (women).
Alongside winning two of sports’ biggest trophies, the winner also walks away with some prize money. After a decrease in prize money for the 2020 edition (when the tournament was played in the fall due to the pandemic), the 2021 purse for Paris has also been reduced by 10.53 percent.
What is the French Open purse for 2021?
In 2020, the purse was $45.69 million and in 2021 it is set at $41.95 million. It’s a decrease of $6,977,070 from last year’s purse.
How much money does the winner get?
The men’s and women’s singles champions will earn approximately $1.69 million each. Last year, Iga Swiatek became Poland’s first Grand Slam singles champion. On the men’s side, Rafael Nadal added to his trophy case with his 13th win at Roland Garros and 20th career Grand Slam title. The pair each won $1.9 million
The men’s and women’s doubles champions win $289,235, while the mixed doubles champions win $148,523
