Halloween 2020 will reportedly be brightened by a rare blue moon

This extra-spooky Halloween comes only once in blue moon!

On Oct. 31, the night sky will be brightened by the rare spectacle of a blue moon, according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac.

Though not blue in color, the name is given to the second full moon that appears in a single calendar month, as in this case, the publication reported.

Or it can also be used for when there are three or four full moons within one season.

Astronomers say these elusive blue moons, as a result, only take place once every two and a half to three years.

For trick-or-treaters, the occurrence is even more special because the lunar spectacle falls on Halloween roughly every 19 years, the publication reported.

The moon will reach peak illumination at 10:51 a.m., but can still be seen full later by night gazers, too.

For those who miss the celestial rarity, the next time they can get a glimpse of a full blue moon on Halloween will be 2039.
