Josh Duggar says he’s too recognizable to be flight risk in child porn case

Josh Duggar says he's too recognizable to be flight risk in child porn case

Ex-reality TV star Josh Duggar is asking to be freed on bail pending his child porn case –claiming that he’s too recognizable to be a flight risk, according to court documents filed Tuesday.

Defense attorneys for the former “19 Kids and Counting” star filed a motion in Western District Court of Arkansas arguing that he should be released at his bond hearing on Wednesday.

Duggar, 33, has been held behind bars since Thursday, when he was busted by the feds for allegedly downloading kiddie porn — including some involving children under the age of 12 — in May 2019.

In requesting bail, lawyers noted that Duggar’s life and that of his parents and 18 siblings has been “largely documented on camera and in the media,” referring to the hit TLC show.

“In that vein, Duggar has a widely-recognizable face and has spent the majority of his life in the public spotlight—making any concern that he is a risk of flight all the more unwarranted,” they wrote.

They also argued that Duggar has no previous criminal convictions, has cooperated with authorities and self-surrendered — and that he has “deep ties” to the Arkansas community where he was raised and currently lives.

The attorneys wrote that Duggar had known about this criminal investigation since November 2019, when Homeland Security agents raided his now-shuttered used car dealership in Springdale, Ark.

The charges against Duggar stem from “alleged conduct involving a desktop computer” at the business, the filing states.

“Duggar did not flee the district or the country” after the raid, it says, “In stark contrast, he continued to support his wife and six children while residing in this district and, through legal counsel, he maintained an open line of communication with the Government.”

Duggar — whose wife is pregnant with their seventh child — pleaded not guilty on Friday to one count each of receipt of child pornography and possession of child pornography.

The reality show documenting the life of Duggar’s Christian fundamentalist family was canceled in 2015 — after molestation allegations against Duggar from 2003 surfaced in the press.

He was accused of sexually abusing five underage girls, including four of his sisters, while a teenager, but was never charged over those allegations.

If convicted of the child-porn raps, Duggar faces up to 20 years in prison and fines of up to $500,000. He is being held at the Washington County Detention Center.
