The PlayStation 5 is all set to launch during Holiday 2020. There is no official announcement regarding the pre-orders, price, or the launch date of the console. Internet sleuths have been digging around but Sony has done a good job at keeping things under wraps. Along with the console reveal in June, there were also new accessories unveiled for the PS5. But this raised a lot of questions regarding the current PS4 accessories that the players have. Will they be compatible with the PS5 or will they become obsolete? Well, Sony has finally answered these questions.
On the official PlayStation Blog, Sony writes, “Today, we’re happy to share a brief FAQ that will answer some of your questions. If you have questions that aren’t addressed, feel free to leave them in the comments below.”
And surely, a lot of questions were answered. Take a look at the explanation provided by the company below:
Question: Which existing PS4 peripherals/accessories will work on PlayStation 5?
- Specialty peripherals, such as officially licensed racing wheels, arcade sticks, and flight sticks, will work with PS5 games and supported PS4 games.
- The Platinum and Gold Wireless Headsets, as well as third-party headsets that connect via USB port or audio jack, will work on PS5 (the headset companion app is not compatible with PS5).
- The DualShock 4 wireless controller and PlayStation officially licensed third-party gamepad controllers will work with supported PS4 games.
- Both the PS Move Motion Controllers and the PlayStation VR Aim Controller will work with supported PS VR games on PS5.

Question: Will DualShock 4 work with PS5 games?
“No, we believe that PS5 games should take advantage of the new capabilities and features we’re bringing to the platform, including the features of DualSense wireless controller.”
As we saw in the DualSense review, by Geoff Keighley, the developers will be able to customize the game experience for the new controller. You will have the best experience of the games on the DualSense controller.
The company also announced that the PlayStation Camera will work on the PS5 and the adaptor will be provided to PS VR users, at no additional cost.
This announcement surely helps a lot. The players now have clarity on how much to spend on accessories and plan their purchase accordingly. More news will come soon as we near the launch of the console. Stay tuned for further updates.
