Sam Darnold found positives out of miserable Jets season

Sam Darnold wants Jets fans to know he found some positives in his third year with the organization, despite Gang Green’s ugly 2-14 record last season.

“Year 3… So much to learn from and so many great teammates I grew closer with along the way,” Darnold wrote in an Instagram post on Wednesday. “Not the season we envisioned but shared moments with people that I will never forget. Only up from here!! #jetup”

It’s still a question if Darnold will remain a Jet next se ason.

The Jets, who have the No. 2 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, very likely lost their chance to get Trevor Lawrence, but still could draft a quarterback.

Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields received a lot of buzz after a dominant performance against Clemson in the College Football Playoff semifinal but struggled in a 52-24 loss to Alabama in the national championship on Monday. Zach Wilson, who led the BYU Cougars to an 11-1 record last season, also is considered a top quarterback on some early draft boards.

A week ago Jets general manager Joe Douglas praised Darnold, but didn’t rule out trading him in 2021.

“We’ve got a lot of decisions to make,” Douglas said. “I think that Sam’s going to be a great quarterback. I’m excited to get a head coach in here, go through our process.

“I had a great conversation with Sam. I won’t go into the specifics, but I think Sam has a very bright future in this league. … I’m excited about Sam.”

Darnold, who has yet to play a complete 16-game season, is 13-25 as the Jets’ starter.
