The 2021 season got off to a great start with the successful completion of the Australian Open 2021. The season has just begun and has got many more exhilarating tournaments lined up. The Qatar Open 2021 will begin soon, and fans are quite excited about it. However, Simona Halep and Bianca Andreescu just announced some unfortunate news.
World No. 3 Simona Halep recently backed out from the Qatar Open 2021. She has given no reason for her withdrawal so far, which has made fans even more curious. Halep played well at the Australian Open 2021 before getting knocked out by Serena Williams in straight sets.
Similarly, World No. 9 Bianca Andreescu has also withdrawn from the Qatar Open 2021 due to an injury to her left leg. This is quite alarming since she returned to the court at the Australian Open 2021 after almost a year.
The Qatar Open 2021 will begin from March 6, 2021, and will extend till March 14, 2021. With two of the top 10 players missing, it’ll be intriguing to see who will win the tournament.
Simona Halep and Bianca Andreescu at the Australian Open 2021
Halep played brilliantly at the Australian Open 2021. She made an incredible comeback against Veronika Kudermetova and also took her revenge on Iga Swiatek. However, the mighty Serena Williams thrashed her in the quarters, and that ended her journey at the Grand Slam.
As Naomi Osaka won the Australian Open 2021 title, she also climbed one spot in the WTA rankings. She replaced Halep from the second spot, and the Romanian player is now third in the rankings.
On the other hand, Bianca Andreescu didn’t enjoy a great comeback. Hsieh Su-wei eliminated her from the Grand Slam in the second round, and she faced a lot of trouble in that match. After the Australian Open 2021, she also played at the Phillip Island Trophy, where she lost to Marie Bouzkova in the semis. Fans will hope that Andreescu’s injury is not that serious and that she’ll recover soon.
They will also hope that Halep will soon return to the court. Will Simona Halep regain her spot and climb back to the second or first spot in the rankings in 2021?
