The Impact of Sensory Deprivation via Floatation Therapy

Evan Lewis

Floatation tank therapy has become immensely popular the world over simply because of the impact that it has on people. Floatation therapy which is basically a ‘friendly form’ of sensory deprivation, in essence, allows the brain to take a break from routine tasks.

These routine tasks are the inputs that are received by our brain through our sensory apparatus (skin that detects temperature changes, ears that loads sound waves, nostrils that detect smells, eyes that process vision). Our brain then goes about processing the inputs at incredible speeds that even supercomputers will not be able to perform.

This is a constant process that goes on 24/ 7 keeping our brain preoccupied with the environment around us throughout its existence. This is due to the direct function of the brain to remain alert at all times that takes place subconsciously and when conditions are not right or to our liking our bodies began to produce stress hormones which include cortisol and adrenaline which in turn cause a series of chemical-related chaos within us.

Excess cortisol and adrenaline have been linked to a wide variety of stress-related symptoms which among others include stress, manic depression, anxiety, low tolerance for pain and burnout. These ailments could be effectively subdued via floatation tank therapy based on observations from a large number of clinical trials across the globe.

The negative mental states introduced by stress-based ailments which are largely due to excess of these hormones in our systems usually lead to bad eating and sleeping habits. When individuals practice bad eating and sleeping habits, the toll that it takes on their biological conditions goes on an exponential negative tangent.

Hence it becomes absolutely critical that the mind is given a break from ‘external stimuli’ in order for it to be sent into a state of ‘deep relaxation’ where it would be able to recalibrate itself and everything else that the brain controls – which is our very existence.

This is why float tanks has become such a phenomenal success as when individuals submit to floatation therapy which basically means entering into a pod that is filled with Epsom salt that limits the impact of gravity on their bodies and the pod itself acts as a ‘blotter of external stimuli’ individual start to experience a feeling of weightlessness and with most of their sensory apparatus being deprived of stimuli, they easily fall into a meditative state where the brain alters its ‘functional frequency ‘into a lower state.

When this happens a process of inner ‘healing’ is triggered that lead to better mental clarity, better tolerance to pain, higher levels of energy, better moods and better just about everything. It is due to this reason that people who suffer from stress, anxiety, depression, women with PMS discomfort, those facing issues with gout or arthritis or even those who contend with severe headaches or chronic pain benefit from floatation therapy.

It is because of this that medical professionals across the globe frequently recommend sensory deprivation as part of the healing process for a wide range of ailments.

German DJ Zedd banned from China

Zedd, an international high-profile music producer, and DJ claimed that he has was banned permanently from China over liking a Twitter post of adult animated sitcom ‘South Park.’

Zedd tweeted and shared the sad news on Thursday.

Adam Guest, Zedd’s senior publicist, confirmed the ban claim to CNBC on Saturday however refused to comment anything further. It’s not clear currently if this means that the German musician now has a ban on his trips to China. Zedd’s songs were yet available to stream on QQ Music, Chinese freemium music streaming service as of Saturday morning.

The tweet which landed Zedd into trouble was posted by ‘South Park’ celebrating the show’s 300th episode. The rift between the sitcom’s creators and Beijing started the previous Wednesday after they aired one episode called Band in China.

In that episode, character Randy attempts to sell cannabis to China and ends up in a workcamp. Randy encounters another political prisoner, Winnie The Pooh at the workcamp who made physical differentiations to Xi Jinping, Chinese President.

Meanwhile, the other characters of the show, Jimmy, Stan, Butters, and Kenny created a new metal band. This grabbed the attention of one Hollywood manager that always wanted to make a film about them. However, he modified the film’s script constantly for it to get distributed across China.

The episode stirred controversy and rage from Beijing as it poked fun at China’s strict censorship regulations. Beijing, in turn, responded by censoring ‘South Park’ content on its internet search engines such as Baidu. Besides, the Chinese government also axed the show’s clips and episodes from video streaming services like Youku.

The controversy went on after Matt Stone and Trey Parker, the creators of the show issued their ‘apology’ to China on Monday.

Zedd made an announcement about his ban from China just days after.
