Watch: Baker Mayfield Shows Off His New Workout Routine

Baker Mayfield arrived in Cleveland with great expectations on his shoulders back in 2018. However, things have not gone as planned for the former Heisman Trophy winner. Mayfield had a decent rookie year. He started 14 games for Cleveland Browns that season and posted with 3,725 yards and 27 passing TDs against 14 interceptions. The former Oklahoma Sooners man had a pass completion rate of 63.8 as he ended the season with a 6-7 record.

However, in his first full season as a starter, Mayfield failed to live up to expectations. His performance dropped in 2019. The former OSU man threw for 3,500+ passing yards. However, he made just 22 TDs against 22 interceptions with a pass completion rate of 59.4 last year.

The onus is on the likes of Mayfield, Odell Beckham Jr, and Myles Garrett to step up their performances heading into the 2020 season.

Sneak-peek at the ‘leaner’ Baker Mayfield ahead of 2020 season

It’s been a peculiar offseason for NFL players across America. The coronavirus pandemic resulted in a delay in preseason training camps. As per reports, preseason games for the 2020 season have also been shelved. Players across the league were forced to train individually in the offseason in order to prepare for the upcoming season.

Cleveland Browns’ starting quarterback Baker Mayfield was one of the players who trained alone. In the video above, the 25-year appears leaner than before. He also displayed some gritty footwork which would be a positive sign for Browns’ new head coach Kevin Stefanski.

“Baker’s footwork from the gun will change. We talked about left foot forward. From under center, we would like to take some of that giant stagger step he has out. I think our philosophy is we want to be west coast footwork.”

There’s a way to teach that, and it’s not with that giant stagger. Under center will change slightly for him, too, but I think it will ultimately add to the rhythm and the timing of the pass game.”

“As far as the footwork goes, that’s the part that you can actually coach over the internet, which is cool. The quarterbacks sending the videos of their footwork to me, I can now go back, break it down and get on a one-on-one Zoom meeting with them and kind of coach them through the correction process of all the footwork we are going to use,” Browns OC Alex Van Pelt told Cleveland.com earlier in June.

Cleveland players are participating in daily walk-ins for now. The veteran players will join the training camp between August 3 -11. The squad’s first full-blown team practice is scheduled to be held on August 14, 2020.
